Today we held a special 12-hour charity tweet-a-thon on Twitter, organized by Scott Stratten. Our aim was to reach our target of $12,000 for the month of March. We did that in 6 hours. Our final tally was $13,000 for the day, which takes the March charity’s donations to just over $14,500 as I type this.

This is amazing and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who took part.

Welcome to the special 12for12k Tweet-a-Thon. This is our unique 12-hour Twitter event to raise money for this month’s charity, Share Our Strength, which combats child hunger in the US. The Tweet-a-Thon is Scott Stratten (@unmarketing) ‘s baby and takes place today, Thursday March 19, between 10.00am and 10.00pm Eastern.

It’s very simple – $12 gets you one entry into the draw for the prizes on this page.

Simply make your donation using the ChipIn widget either in the sidebar or at the bottom of this page. You’ll get a tax receipt from Share Our Strength as well as an automatic entry into the draw. We’ll do the rest for you. All you need to do is follow the #12for12k hashtag on Twitter to keep up with what’s happening, as there will also be special flash giveaways every time we break a $1,000 threshold.

Jason Falls Backs 12for12k

One of the most respected figures in social media has recorded a special video for the 12for12k Challenge. Jason Falls, director of social media for Louisville-based branding agency Doe-Anderson and co-founder of the Louisville Social Media Club, as well as owner of the widely-respected Social Media Explorer blog, offers his support for the challenge in his touching video.

Calling on the social media community, the message in the video complements the aim of the 12for12k Challenge perfectly – that a relatively small amount of people can make a huge impact in the lives of millions through the power of social media. On behalf of everyone involved with the 12for12k Challenge, I want to say thank you to Jason for his support and I’m delighted to have him on board.

New Server and Site Redesign Underway

As we move closer to the announcement of the first charity and the official January 1 launch of the 12for12K Challenge, it’s a busy time here at 12for12K HQ. As you’ve probably noticed, the site has been moved to a new server. This will allow us to have a far greater level of interaction with both yourself and the charities in question.

The site is active, but will be going through some design tweaks and adjustments over the next few days. Therefore, comments may not show up immediately – this should be resolved shortly.

Blog badges and other promotional materials should also be available later this week for you to help promote the challenge, and you can still add your name to the 12for12K Facebook group in the meantime.

Again, thanks for your support so far and here’s to the imminent launch of the 12for12K Challenge.
